Day 1 – Apartment hunt

My main mission for the first days was to find an apartment to stay. As on one of the requirements toward housing was that it should be within walking distance to Moritz’s office I decided to use the first days as some walking exercise.

According to Strava I walked 45 km I guess it was around 20km.

Before arriving to Seattle we were researching some high rise buildings in the city center our favorite being Stratus. Unfortunately they do not offer short term furnished rentals any more.

High rise high life

Apparently this is not the best time to find a good option for short term rentals as this is the time of the year when Microsoft hires of about 4000 interns for 3 months. I could find another building called The Olivian where I booked a tour for Monday. This place is going to became our home for the next couple of months.

On my way to the Downtown I was very disturbed by the continuous noise of traffic randomly cut by airplane passing by, firefighter car or huge trucks. I have some concerns of the enjoyability living in the middle of this mess. Unless the apartment is very very well isolated.

The city if full of construction work. High rise buildings are surrounded with construction workers, many sidewalks are closed under these buildings. Even if you do not see construction work around anything can fall on you from these high rise buildings.

This happened to me the very first day, luckily this little piece fall 30 cm from me while I was walking on the street. No surprise at all that a couple of months a lady has died as some metal peace was falling on her while she was walking on the street. Since then I am avoiding construction sides as much as I can.

Falling stones

Secondary mission - if not more important than the primary - was to find something edible. I was kind of expecting that this will be a challenge in this country. Thus early morning I started to follow up on this. Moritz suggested to check out a supermarket chain called Trader Joe’s. By accident I entered to another supermarket Freeway - I was really disgusted what I saw. Huge refrigerators incredible amount of meat in a form of all processed food of course. In the evening eventually I have found the real organic supermarket chain. Great choices (I could even find the ayurvedic herbs I am using). Unfortunately smelling the fruits was still a sad experience. Probably I give up to eat nice fruit for this summer. (Thankfully my parents are working hard in Hungary to preserve (dry) the treasures of the summer for me.) At this stage better not to post pictures on this.

After spending over a decade working hard in the insurance sector I decided to take a well deserved break. Well it was not all without a reason. My boyfriend, Moritz was offered a work opportunitiny in Seattle. I took this great opportunity life had to offer. I promise do my best to explore this unknown continent and fill my mind as well as the content of this website with more or less funny stories, but most of all beautiful pictures. Follow me to the United States to explore what is beyond the life of an Office slave.
